Tips
for appropriate care for custom and handmade jewellery
Handmade
and custom made jewellery needs to be taken care of properly so as to
retain its elegance and stunning appearance.
Handmade
jewellery, particularly those that are made of delicate feathers and
mesh are very soft and to keep its shape, extreme care is highly
advised.
Mesh
jewellery is very light and delicate so in order to maintain its
gorgeous appearance you need to be very careful in wearing and
storing it. Whilst wearing mesh items, refrain from bending it so
that it will not deform and as to avoid broken links in the surface
of your jewellery.
However,
your feather collections should not be worn on a rainy day, so as to
avoid discoloration since it has been painted. Once the feathers
become wet they will not go back to its original form. Preventing it
from being wet will allow you to wear it for a longer period and this
way you will enjoy an eye grabbing look with your fabulous feather
pieces.
If
you have custom jewellery, you also need to handle it with care. Do
not use it when you are in a rough working environment to avoid
damages to the jewellery and to preserve its original state. Silver
and silver plated jewellery tarnishes naturally; storing them in the
plastic bag will slow the tarnishing process.
Gem
stones and pearls also require delicate care as not all of these can
be worn every day. Gem stone requires delicate care as it is fragile
so it should not be hit by hard objects. Though you can use it every
day, you should not wear it when doing rough work. Whilst pearls are
very sensitive they can absorb acids from your sweat in the skin and
this is why they can be deformed when used regularly. Do not wear
pearls every day, this will retain its beauty and will glow for many
years. Furthermore, it is best to use them for special occasions.
Here
is the basic jewellery care:
Usage:
Avoid jewellery
from prolonged contact with water such as in the shower and swimming.
Always remove items before washing hands. Remove your jewellery when
applying creams, make-up, hair sprays and perfumes. Using perfume is
a big no, since the metal will react with the alcohol content and it
may lead to discoloration and foul smell. Do not wear your jewellery
whilst doing sports activities. You should also protect jewellery
from sunlight and extreme temperatures. Your jewellery should not
have contact with any materials that contain sulphur.
Storage:
All jewellery has
different storage criteria. If you have a box for the feather
collections, then all the other items in collections such as custom,
handmade, gemstones and pearls should not be placed into the same
box. There should be specific boxes for each individual materials.
Furthermore, if you have gold and silver jewels do not place them in
a single storage to avoid scratches. The storage boxes or areas
should be clean and spacious so the jewels will not break or tangle
together.
Cleaning:
Use a clean, soft
and dry cloth to clean items after wearing them. To clean pearls use
a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. You can make them clean by
jewellery cleaning service at most jewellery stores.
